Welcome to the New Year! Many of us have made those traditional resolutions for the upcoming 2017 year. Maybe it’s to stay healthy and fit, be a better friend or parent, or pick up that new hobby? Speaking of hobbies, scrapping can be a pretty interesting hobby that you can make money doing! With all the fun involved, we’d like to remind to keep safe while you’re out there scrapping.
First, make sure you’re prepared for the cold this time of year. Dress in layers so that you can peel any off as you get warmer while huffing all that scrap around. You also never know when trusty old pickup lets you down. Keep some warm clothes handy in case you get stuck out there.
Another thing to be mindful of is lifting carefully. I know, you want to be the “tough guy” and get it done! Just keep in mind that many disability claims come from back problems. Lift with your legs, ask for assistance, or find an alternative method for moving those bigger pieces.
Finally, have a plan for loading your scrap and secure it for going down the road. When loading, keep in mind we have a grapple excavator to unload in on our yard. Bigger items can be placed on the bottom and then fill in the rest with smaller items. Make sure nothing will rattle loose and fall off onto the road. Secure your load with straps, chains, tarp or netting. Whatever you can do to ensure safe travel.
We hope to see you around the yard soon with all your valuable scrap, but we’d like to see you happy and healthy. Have fun and stay safe!
